Four Seasons Hotel, CBD

These past few weeks after the HSC have been truly amazing so far - escaping the city to a relaxing resort at Coffs Harbour for our post-HSC trip, dressing up for formals and weddings, and spending quality time with friends and family, all the while enjoying the company of lovely meals from all around Sydney.

They say that this 15 week break (early November to end of February) is one of the best times of your life, and so every day, I've been finding many ways to keep myself occupied.  This past week, it's been watching Mad Men for the first time, reading Herve This' molecular gastronomy handbook number 2, Kitchen Mysteries, finding odd jobs, and reading plenty of foodblogs.

Although I am currently venturing to different places as part of my 12 week food tour, I am still writing up posts about those happy fun-times events that took place during the 2 weeks right after that last HSC exam, and every time I resume to add a bit more, I remember what great occasions they were, and this is the first one :)

The Sunday right after the 4 week HSC period ended was the date of The Boy's formal, and so, The Boy and his boys organised for a lavish Hummer service (HF Wedding Cars).
Credits to Shaun F for these photos :)

While the night was anticipated to be held at Shangri-La Hotel, just a few blocks down, apparently the light system encountered problems, and so Shangri-La called and the formal was changed to be situated at Four Seasons Hotel.  We were told that the venue was more expensive than the $130 Shangri-La Hotel formal ticket we paid for, so I secretly had my hopes high for good food and stellar service.

The venue was pleasant indeed, with the usual comfy chairs and chandelier settings, but the function room was quite enclosed, windowless in other words, no picturesque water view to be near or see, but the Hummer trip there and back made it all the worth.
Credits to Daryl F for taking all the photos of the night, as well as all some of the food photos below, upon my request :)
Entree: Smoked Duck, Lentil Dressing, Orange and Fennel Salad
Small, pleasant start, lovely citrus contrast, but I didn't sense that the smokiness of the duck was there. Lovely portion size though.
Main: Sirloin Steak, Mashed Potato, Asparagus, Mushroom and Jus
While Daryl beside me was constantly complaining about the fact they chose the sirloin cut to make us steak, this dish was really underwhelming.  The mash was lacking in the optimum creaminess and the steak... Well. I expected much more depth in flavour and juiciness.  An average steak that you would usually pass off for at home.
Dessert: Cake, and Hand Made Chocolates
The chocolates were alcohol-infused, and they didn't give us cake.  So in fact we paid close to full price to get 2/3 of a complete meal, of which the main course wasn't that outstanding.

Fortunately the night's focus was upon dancing one's heart out and hogging the photobooth, and 3 hours of dancing and an awesomely energetic Hummer ride home made it one of the most memorable nights for me this year :)
